We're on a mission to make artificial bodies as capable as natural bodies

Bringing AI to the human body enables limitless physical ability and lifespan for all of humanity

Bringing AI to the human body represents a watershed moment for humanity: we can now develop artificial bodies.

Artificial bodies are engineered physical bodies designed to restore, replace, and augment our biological human bodies.

Human bodies are incredibly complex systems, evolved over millions of years. Humans are the most advanced animal in the known universe.

Yet today, humanity is experiencing a widening gap in human potential—we’re living longer than ever, yet millions of people lose their physical ability every year from trauma, disease, or aging. If we want continued prosperity, we must not only restore the human potential gap, but transcend it with human augmentation. This means bringing AI to the human body.

For the first time, the power of AI gives us the capability to reverse engineer, integrate with, and augment the human body. Artificial bodies will impact all areas of human physical ability, starting with helping those most in need and expanding to every human being alive.

The potential here is truly civilization-scale. Augmentation at scale creates a checkpoint for humanity where we:

  • Restore full physical ability to anyone who’s lost it
  • Make injury and disability temporary, not permanent
  • Augment our physical abilities and engineer lifespan

This will not happen overnight. It will take years of hard work by smart, passionate minds, requiring breakthroughs in science and engineering, across AI, robotics, neural interfaces, materials science, and more. Artificial bodies represent the pinnacle of frontier technology. At Atom, we are dedicated to the cause.

Starting with those most in need: helping 100M people with limb loss restore profound physical ability today

At Atom, we're focused on building a better future for all humans. We're doing that by building artificial bodies, starting with an artificial arm: Atom Touch.

Why start with artificial limbs? Surprisingly, despite modern advancements in medicine and technology, prosthetic limbs today still resemble those given to people in the 1800s — they're largely meant to give the appearance of a functioning limb; they're relatively useless to the user.

For 100 million people with limb loss or congenital difference, even the most advanced prosthetics on the market are unsustainably expensive and severely limited in capability compared to a natural human limb. Which is why less than 1% of people with limb loss use a prosthetic — prosthetics simply are not good enough.

Why aren't prosthetics better? The simple answer is: until now, humanity had no interface sophisticated enough to integrate with the human nervous system — to read and write with neuromuscular systems sufficient to restore complete motor control and sensation, let alone augment our bodies.

Thus, at Atom our goal is to develop neural AI and hardware that restore independence, dignity, and ability to millions while paving the way for augmentation to enhance the lives of billions. From restoring lost physical ability to enabling entirely new capabilities, we aim to create technologies that allow people to live more fulfilling, purposeful lives.

Hence, we aim to kickstart the next era of artificial bodies, starting with artificial limbs. We look forward to sharing more as we progress.
