We're on a mission to make artificial bodies as capable as natural bodies
By bringing AI to the human body, we're building a future of limitless physical ability for all of humanity
At Atom, we're focused on building a better future for all humans. We're doing that by building artificial bodies, starting with an artificial arm: Atom Touch.
Why start with artificial limbs? Surprisingly, despite modern advancements in medicine and technology, prosthetic limbs today still resemble those given to people in the 1800s — they're largely meant to give the appearance of a functioning limb; they're relatively useless to the user.
For 100 million people with limb loss, even the most advanced prosthetics on the market are unsustainably expensive and severely limited in capability compared to a natural human limb. Which is why less than 1% of people with limb loss use a prosthetic — prosthetics simply are not good enough.
Why aren't prosthetics better? The simple answer is: until now, humanity had no interface sophisticated enough to integrate with the human nervous system — to read and write with neuromuscular systems sufficient to restore advanced motor control and sensation.
AI represents a watershed moment for prosthetics, and restoring human physical ability more broadly. By integrating frontier AI with neural interfaces — and wearable robotics and feedback systems — we are now capable of restoring profound physical ability.
Hence, we aim to kickstart the next era of artificial bodies, starting with artificial limbs. We look forward to sharing more as we progress on our journey.
